Deer Resistant Plants Can SafeGuard Your Garden

When getting ready to plant a garden, there are several things that must be taken into consideration before making your plan. One of the very first considerations should be how the immediate wildlife will factor into the ability for the garden to grow unharmed. If there is a deer population in the immediate area, deer resistant plants may be something to consider planting as a safe guard.

Deer are known to destroy gardens en masse. When they find a feeding ground, they will come back every single day as long as there is reason. While some people may find them cute the first time, they will soon have the rifles out as they realize that the “cute and cuddly” deer are destroying their entire garden.

While some may get a little aggressive and decide to turn it into open season, this is not the solution that we are after. Other solutions are available that will deter the deer from coming into the garden and at the same time still allow them not to be harmed. If done properly, the garden and the deer will coexist without the owner getting frustrated by the area being used as a feeding zone.

The one thing that has become very popular over the years is deer repellent. They come in two different forms and have been fairly effective at stopping deer from destroying plants. While there are probably just as many good ones out on the market as there are bad ones. The direct applications seem to be the better of the two if you are to go this route.

However, because these repellents are usually applied directly to the plants, many people try and stay away from them. It is not that they cannot be washed off, it is that some of them have less than an appetizing smell and if the garden is producing food that will be eaten, just the thought of those ingredients touching their food will make some people grimace just a bit.

An idea that works just as well is to use plants to surround the area that deep do not like and recognize as being either repulsive or dangerous. Angel’s Trumpet looks and smells beautiful, but any deer that eats it will immediately feel ill. One quick taste should be enough to keep them away.

The one thing that many like about this method is that they are actually increasing the beauty of the area as well as keeping the deer out. Deer resistant plants like the Angel’s Trumpet will saturate the area with an incredible fragrance and truly make the garden something special. This of course is much better than smelling old eggs.
