Your teens might be singing the song umbrella, a hit by the singer Rihanna. Your family may have watched the thriller Resident Evil and know that the company which produces the virus which turns humans into zombies is called Umbrella Corporation. Either way, the umbrella has been one of the best creations by mankind.

In the UK, a popular retailer in clothing had actually emerged from a company that had initially began with selling women’s clothes, rainwear and umbrella. The popular retailer is Next, and it was known sometime ago with the name Kendall & Sons Ltd. It is the only company that had exclusive privilege to sell umbrellas to the Royal Family with certain specifications.

In Japan, the umbrella is part of their tradition. The japanese umbrella, commonly known as the Gifu Wagasa is made from paper and bamboo. Donned by women to show status, the Wagasa is made only by the skillful craftsmen and takes several months to complete. The paper is fixed onto the bamboo frame and then oil and lacquer is applied onto it so that it becomes waterproof; not that the Wagasa to be used in the rain or shine. A Geisha will be respected if seen holding the wagasa. Gone are the days where Japanase women are seen on the streets with this beautiful traditional umbrella. Today, the Japanese market is filled with the western type of umbrella. The usage of Wagasa is restricted to traditional ceremony such as weddings and tea ceremony.

You can be thankful that you now see market umbrellas that are not like the ones sold 20 years ago. Unlike the market umbrella you see today, the ones sold 20 years ago cannot stand on its own. This is why they would normally come with a fitted table which made it very hard for the umbrella to provide shade in the right direction.

A good advice for those wanting to find a good umbrella is to go for popular brand. One of them is the Sunbrella Umbrella which is quite a trusted brand when you expect fade proof, stain resistant and long lasting. You need not worry if your pattern of color would fade if it continually exposed under the sun and rain.

If you want something fancy, then the normal patio umbrellas would not do for you. Market umbrellas are now equipped with lights that are cleverly attached to the frame of the umbrella. It is no longer an excuse of not having a party during midnight. Have you ever had the experience of having a luncheon or a dinner under the rain? As the rain softly drizzles around you, you are occasionally kissed by the soft splash of rain drops. However, you will not be drenched like a drowned rat and you will not be suffering from pneumonia after that. This is the beauty of patio umbrellas.

With the advancement of technology coupled with man’s creativity, the market umbrella may bear many other special feature in the future. This will definitely boost its popularity even more. Who knows, in the near future we might just see that foldable market umbrella or ones fitted with mosquito net.

Patio umbrellas are wonderful because they help you enjoy the outside world more often than you could without them. The shade and comfort they provide helps to keep you cool and lets you relax on a warm and sunny day.

Yet not all patio umbrellas are created equal. There are many different components to this kind of patio furniture. Different selections among these components will lead to an entirely different piece that could function better or worse.

The look and feel of a patio umbrella is largely determined by the canopy. This part not only provides the shade but also is the number one thing that sets one umbrella apart from the next. A poor canopy can lead to many undesired problems.

Choosing the right fabric for your patio umbrella’s canopy isn’t as simple as it first looks. There are several different factors that you have to weigh so that you can make an informed decision about what will work best for your needs.

One question you should ask yourself is how often you intend to use the patio umbrella. If the unit will be stored away indoors for most of the year, then you won’t need a canopy fabric that’s resistant to being damaged by UV radiation.

Next determine the moisture levels of the area near your home. The more moisture that there is, the more likely mildew or mold may grow on your patio umbrella canopy fabric. Certain fabrics are resistant to this kind of growth.

Another factor to consider is how often you think you’ll need to clean the fabric. Not all canopy fabrics deal with repeated washing in the same way. The ones that are tougher tend to be more expensive. So if you won’t be washing often, avoid them.

Once you figure out your needs related to these three factors, you’ll be ready to consider what patio umbrella canopy fabric is best for your needs. You’ll be able to make an informed decision which will certainly lead to years of enjoyment under the sun.

One thing that every patio can’t be complete without is a patio umbrella. This lovely piece of furniture provides amicable shade so that you can relax and enjoy sunny, warm, summer days. Before you settle on a final decision for your patio umbrella, there are a few things you need to consider.

Choosing a proper shaft material for the patio umbrella is a crucial step in determining which model will suit your needs best. This doesn’t just determine how the umbrella will look, it determines how it will function, as well. Aluminum and wood are your two main choices in this case.

Although they can be more expensive, wooden patio umbrellas are often chosen based on their look and feel. Wood is a great choice especially if you want to match other wooden furniture pieces. The choice of wood will factor in on the price of the umbrella heavily.

The downside to a wooden umbrella is that it doesn’t match the high strength and durability of more modern materials like aluminum. Some designs have gone around this by replacing the inside of the wood with a steel core for added mechanical strength. With this you get the look of wood with the strength of steel.

The most popular kind of patio umbrella has recently been the aluminum variety because of their lightweight nature and high mechanical strength. Aluminum tends to cost a whole lot less than wood, too, which is another plus. You can even customize the look with different finishes.

If you live in an area plagued by heavy winds and gusty conditions, then aluminum umbrellas are perfect. Their high durability will help them last through conditions that wooden umbrellas just can’t handle. Aluminum is a great modern choice for its strength and endurance.

Choosing between aluminum or wood for your patio umbrella can come down to function versus aesthetic. For this decision you’ll need to determine what’s most important to your specific needs. It’s definitely recommended to favor practicality first since you want the umbrella to function well no matter how it looks.

By taking the time to look into all of your options you’ll have the best chance possible to find the patio umbrella that’s perfect for your specific tastes and needs. Whether wood or aluminum, the right patio umbrella is out there if you’re willing to take the time required to find it.

by Jessica Martin

The base of a patio umbrella is the most critical component of the entire thing so far as practicalities go. Without the right kind, the umbrella could topple over or literally float away. This is a really dire thing to have happen, so determining which base is best is definitely important.

The essential aspects of the patio umbrella base are its size, weight, and neck diameter. If any of these are off by too much, the umbrella will not function as it should. The base is the most important component, so take the time to make sure that you pick an appropriate one.

The weight of the base is the most crucial aspect of it because holding the patio umbrella down and in place is the entire job of the stand. A couple of factors affect what weight is appropriate for your stand, including the size and placement of the umbrella.

The larger the patio umbrella, the heavier the stand needs to be. Most manufacturer’s determine what weight is required based off of the diameter of the umbrella’s canopy. Sometimes this statistic is listed on the product itself. If not, just apply a tape measure and you’ll be set.

The placement is important because you won’t need as much weight if the stand has support from something else. For instance, if the stand is placed inside a table on your patio, it won’t be able to topple over as easily, meaning less weight is required.

In general, you can shift the necessary weight of the umbrella base down one category if you put the patio umbrella inside a table. So if a base needs to be fifty pounds for a free standing umbrella of a particular size, it would only need to be thirty five pounds in a table.

Making sure that the patio umbrella base has the right neck diameter is also critical. If the sleeve diameter is smaller than the umbrella’s shaft diameter, then the whole assembly just won’t work. This is an easy thing to get right, so take your time and do it right.

If you keep these critical umbrella base aspects in mind when looking for one, you’re sure to get the right base for your needs. After you have found one that meets the practical requirements, don’t forget to choose one that will look great too.
