Soil varies from place to place and it is important to know the acidity or alkalinity of your soil in order to treat it effectively. Acidity and alkalinity are measured by pH. You can test your soil to find out the pH level. Then you will know whether it is more heavily alkaline (pH above 7.0) or acidic (pH below 6.5). Knowing this information will help you choose the right organic treatment for your soil.
The biggest problem with organic fertilizer is offensive smell. Many people are so turned off by the smell of organic fertilizer that they refuse to use it. You need to know that organic fertilizers can now be bought in granular form. Granular organic fertilizer is made of treated sewage. It complies with all safety regulations and provides your soil with much needed nutrients. The best thing is that this organic fertilizer is odorless, providing lawn treatment without harmful side effects.
There are a number of good organic fertilizers from which to choose. One of the best is Coconut Fiber. It is great for use with plants in acidic soil, with a pH of 5.5 – 6.3. Coconut Fiber, like other organic fertilizers should be easy to find in your local gardening store. Another good organic fertilizer is earthworm fertilizer. Earthworms themselves can be used to enrich the soil, as well. Use only small layers of fertilizer for in order to grow healthy, green plants and lawn.
The use of organic pesticides is much better for your lawn and the environment than chemical pesticides. Organic pesticides include diatomic earth, specialized lawn care sand, oatmeal, vinegar, and cinnamon. These can be used to help control pests without harming the environment.
Switching to organic lawn and garden care will benefit your health and the environment. It will also return you to the methods of gardening used by your grandparents that produced such great results just a few years ago. They produced beautiful lawns and gardens without the use of chemical treatments and pesticides.

When it comes to lights in our future, solar lights are the way to go. Humans have been using the light from the sun for years, but it has only been in the past few years that we can harness and use the power from the sun. Using solar lights is another step towards become more eco friendly.
Not only are solar lights able to be used in many ways, but they are earth friendly too. The sun is a source of energy that is renewable and we can use the energy from it without causing more pollution to occur. Using solar lights allows us to light up our world without having to increase negative effects on the earth.
It’s a good idea to take a look at how solar lights actually work. The light fixtures actually have a little solar power on top of them. They are a lot like the panels you see on roofs for homes, but much smaller. During the time that the sun is out, the panel collects energy from the sun, which is transferred to a battery that can be recharged again and again. When the sun is out, the battery charges up, and then when it gets dark, that energy is taken and used on the LED light, which provides light through the dark hours.
Today solar lights are used primarily to brighten the outside in our gardens, the backyard, around the pool, and the path to the front door or garage. With this in mind, solar lighting fixtures are available in a vast assortment ranging from functional to decorative. Solar lights can be found to attach up high on a building or to hang from a post or tree shining down to light a wider area. The advantages of solar lights are many. Even short, gray, winter days hold enough sunlight to fully charge the battery. As long as the sun continues to rise and set the lights will turn on and off automatically. The LED produces no heat ensuring safety around children and pets. During a power outage you may sit outside and read a book or play cards with your neighbors. Solar lights are clearly a benefit to our planet and its the neighborly thing to do!
