What to Consider When Buying an Outdoor Storage Shed

by Florin Ciobanu

Everyone, at one time or another, feels like their house just isn’t big enough anymore. Overrun by clutter, furniture or just too much stuff, it is suddenly difficult to find a place to put anything and harder to keep the house clean. Rooms feel cramped and what once was a nicely decorated and arranged room has now lost all sense of style. It might be time to start thinking about buying an outdoor storage shed.

One of our foremost concerns is site preparation. Is there space for it? When added, will it be an asset to the whole or just another eyesore? Along this line would follow the actual size of the shed. What is its storage capacity? Most units are 8 by 10 feet and come with double-doors. Would it be wide enough to accommodate entry and storage with some spare room?

There are also other important considerations to make; are there building codes, zoning ordinances, and deed restrictions in your neighborhood? These are things every homeowner who is planning to buy an outdoor storage shed needs to know. Building codes may be a factor in the materials you purchase for your shed and where you will place it.

You must also decide where to draw the line between price and quality. Everyone wants to save money but is it wise to cut corners on quality when it comes to buying a shed? It is important to find a balance between affordability and quality. Durability, structural integrity, and appearance are all important considerations, equal to the importance of cost.

When it comes time to purchase your outdoor storage shed you will find a wide variety of options in both material and styles. Sheds requiring minimal maintenance are a popular choice. These include vinyl and coated cedar. Wooden storage units are at the top of the charts for appearance but are also subject to more maintenance issues as they are prone to moisture problems and wood rot. Vinyl sheds offer a high level of efficiency and double door security. Metal sheds, while the cheapest and most durable are often the least attractive and desirable from an aesthetic viewpoint.

A storage shed should be fit into the design and landscape of your yard. The color, design, and material chosen should blend into the overall style of your home. If placed well, a storage shed will be an attractive addition to the property allowing for a good view of the yard or garden. If you live in a country-style home, for example, you will want to find a storage shed with a more rustic design that blends with the style of the house. Adding space and minimizing clutter does not have to be unattractive.

The best choice in a storage shed should complement your lifestyle. Not only should it blend into the property but it should be a comfortable extension of your home. If your interests include hobbies, physical exercise or gardening, the additional space can be used to store your equipment. It’s an ideal storage place for lawn mowers and gardening tools, camping equipment and hiking gear. Some families use their storage shed for a playroom for their children, an ideal spot for them to be as noisy as they like.

Considering all of these things will make choosing the right shed for your family a little easier. Use your planning time to find the perfect balance between need, function and affordability when choosing your new outdoor storage shed.

Are All Hot Tub Supplies The Same?

by Sam Raza

Just as with anything else, a hot tub needs its own Hot Tub Supplies and accessories to help maintain it in smooth, top working order. Sometimes you’ll have to replace larger pieces, such as a hose or a jet. Other supplies you’ll want to have around on a more consistent basis, and those include cleansers for the tub, water sanitizing products to keep the water clean and spare filter gaskets.

A hot tub works much like a swimming pool, except it is heated and has massaging jets that pulsate through the water. Hot tubs are often used in hospitals and nursing homes as a form of hydrotherapy, although in recent years, many people have begun to use hot tubs in their homes. You can purchase inflatable hot tubs that can be inflated and used just about anywhere, or you can have a hot tub installed in or outside of your home. You need to be aware of the care and maintenance of the hot tub just as you would if you had a pool.

Cleaning Products

You shouldn’t use any ordinary Hot Tub Supply when you are trying to clean your hot tub. You want to buy a cleaning solution that does not scratch the surface or damage any materials. Your cleaning solution should be kept on hand all year long, so you can clean the tub as necessary.

Hot Tub Covers

When you are not using the hot tub, you will want to cover it so that it does not collect any debris or attract any children that may wander into your yard. A hot tub, like a pool, is considered an attractive nuisance. It is up to the owner to keep others away from the hot tub when not in use. You need to include a hot tub cover with your hot tub supplies.

Water treatment

You need to treat the water in the hot tub so that it is sanitary. Chlorine tablets, like those used in swimming pools, should be used in the hot tub to stave off germs and bacteria that can collect in stagnant water. In addition to the water treatment tablets, your hot tub supplies should also include a water testing kit. This can let you know if the water is safe and sanitary for using the hot tub.

Replacement Parts

Some people panic when their hot tub heater breaks down, thinking they need to buy an entirely new tub. But you can actually just purchase a replacement heater that matches the hot tub that you have. While a heater replacement may seem somewhat obvious, if other issues arise you should be aware of all of the parts your hot tub uses and contains, so you can adequately repair or replace them.

So yes, owning a hot tub does come with some work. But it’s not hard to do and it’s not overly expensive. Keep some basic Hot Tub Supplies around the house when you need them and be aware that others may need to be replaced in the future.
