Buying Spa Covers

by Mark T Kessler

Hot tubs can be a terrific investment that will provide hours of relaxation and pleasure. But they can also be expensive and even more so if they become damaged. A way to help protect your tub is to use a spa cover.

By spanning the opening of the tub, spa covers provide a barrier against debris that can fall into the water and be cycled through the system, damaging both the filter and operating parts. Debris can include sticks, dust, leaves and dirt. Keeping the water dirt-free will also help control any bacteria that tries to cultivate inside the warmth of the tub.

Spa covers can also be a safety device. The covers that have a strong frame can prevent children or pets from jumping into the tub and drowning. You should ask you dealer of hot tub covers which covers have the required strength to hold the body weight of an adult.

Some spa covers have insulation built into them. This helps to keeps the water warm when you are not using the tub. Insulated covers are great for the winter months as you will be able to jump straight into the tub without waiting an eternity for the water to warm up.

A rolling spa cover is constructed from foam. They are rolled up and put away when you are using the hot tub. These types of covers are one of the easiest to use but they don’t have the supporting frame of other types.

If you are looking for a strong and sturdy hot tub cover then one constructed from aluminum should be your choice. They can be very useful during winter when snow and ice can form on top of the cover. They are also weather resistant and won’t blow away on windy days.

Tarp type covers are called tonneau covers. These are pieces of tarp that attach over the tub. Unlike aluminum covers they won’t be able to hold large amounts of weight so they are not the best choice if you have children or pets. They can also be damaged by volatile weather.

You can buy a spa cover from a wide range of places but the most common are from hot tub retailers or from trusted websites on the internet. Choosing a cover is a simple task but make sure you know the size of your tub and which cover you want to buy before you start looking.
